Lantern Tours at Historic Ephrata Cloister: Virtual Living History
Jere Gish of WGAL News 8 will be lending his talents to the popular Lantern Tours at the Historic Ephrata Cloister this year. Lantern Tours has become a family favorite program during the holiday season and a reimagined virtual format keeps the tradition alive with this year’s theme “Witness to History.” As always, the Lantern Tours feature high school volunteers who take on the roles of people from the past to bring history to life. This program offers a news broadcast with modern reporters interviewing people connected to the Revolutionary War hospital at the Ephrata Cloister in 1777-1778. Jere Gish will anchor the historically inspired story while field reporters will interview members of the Ephrata Cloister, along with one of the Army doctors caring for the soldiers brought to Ephrata that winter, and an Ephrata neighbor bringing supplies to support the hospital. It’s possible some breaking news may also be captured in this special report.
