By PHMC/Ephrata Cloister (other events)

Thursday, April 8 2021 9:00 AM 3:00 PM EDT

ABOUT ABOUT

The morning will explore the Harmonist Society, one of the oldest and most successful religious communal groups of the nineteenth century. The Society sought to create a utopia inhabited by German Lutheran separatists who subscribed to the mystical religious teachings of their leader George Rapp. We'll begin with an introduction by leading scholar Dr. Donald Pitzer, followed by visits to the three towns established by the Society, Harmony, PA, New Harmony, Indiana, and Economy, PA. The afternoon will include a visit to Zoar, Ohio, hosted by historian Kathleen Fernandez. Zoar was established in 1817 by German Separatists seeking escape from religious persecution in their homeland.

Can't make this in person? No problem!  The purchase of a ticket will also entitle you to receive a personal link to the recording of the virtual field trip to watch at your own convenience.
